LAB 4: DOUBLE EXPOSURE PROJECT
For this project, I decided to go with the double exposure option in Photoshop.
First, I had to find an image to work with. I really wanted to do an animal or person because the extra feeling that they communicate. I found a good image of a bald eagle.
I extracted the image of the eagle from its background simply using the Quick Selection Tool. Then, I refined the edges to make it look more sharp and better around the edges.
The next step is to find another image that will fill it in or the way around. I decided to go with the United States Flag because the eagle's role as a symbol to the country.
Then, I made a few tweaks here and there to combine the two images with each other. In this case, I simply applied the flag image as a clipping mask on top of the eagle's head.
I then created a layer mask for the original eagle head layer. And then I duplicated it. The duplicated layer (eagle copy) I applied a "Desaturate" Adjustement in the Image menu.
Then, it was really just a matter of playing around with the layers and settings to get the bes results. I did not use the copy layer because I wanted to keep a bit of color to the beak. Instead, I applied Desaturate to the clipping flag layer. I also added a layer mask to the flag and I used the pen tool with the black/white colors to reveal the eagle's face and beak. I finalized by adding a background with a gradiente color of blue and red, just like the US flag. I made a few adjustements to make the feathers look better (compare top and bottom images) and that is my end result :)
